Your SMBI Index newsroom
A quick tour of what your media account can do \u2014 built to give a small local outlet the reach of a Facebook Page, without the algorithm.
1. Log in
Log in at smbi.com.au with the email your account was set up with. Once you're in, open smbi.com.au/newsroom — that's your dashboard.
2. Write a story
Tap “New story.” You get a proper editor: bold, italics, headings, lists, quotes and links. Add a headline, a one-line subheading, a category, which islands it's for, and one photo if you like.
3. Publish, or schedule it
“Publish now” puts it live straight away. Or pick a date and time first and it publishes itself later — handy for embargoed news or timing a story for the morning.
4. Your own page
Every story appears on your public page at smbi.com.au/local-news/the-mooring — your logo, your bio, and your archive, all in one place for residents to browse.
5. Reach beyond your own audience
This is the part Facebook can't do: your fresh stories are automatically pulled into the SMBI Index community digest email. Even on a day with nothing new on the noticeboard, the digest will still go out if you've published something — so your story reaches inboxes, not just your own page.
6. See what lands
Every story shows its own views, likes and comments right in your dashboard, so you know what people are actually reading.
7. Comments, moderated for you
Readers can comment on your stories. Nothing shows publicly until it's approved — that's handled in the SMBI Index admin, the same way noticeboard posts are moderated, so you're not on the hook for policing comments yourself.
