About SMBIIndex

SMBIIndex is the digital heart of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands — a free, community-driven directory and information hub built for the residents and businesses of Russell, Macleay, Lamb, and Karragarra Islands. The platform brings together the essential services islanders rely on every day into one easy-to-search place: a vetted local business directory, a live passenger ferry tracker with countdowns to the next departure, vehicle barge timetables, a community events calendar, and a growing library of expert articles written by the local businesses themselves.

The app is designed for two audiences. For island residents and visitors, it offers a fast, mobile-friendly way to find a plumber, check the next ferry, discover a weekend market, or read a how-to guide from a neighbour who knows the trade. For local business owners, it provides a fair, transparent place to list services, claim a listing, publish articles that build trust, and reach customers across all four islands without paying for expensive advertising. Community vouching lets neighbours endorse businesses they trust, so the best local operators rise to the top organically.

SMBIIndex is built and maintained by an independent local developer living on the islands, with live transit data sourced from Translink Open Data under a CC BY 4.0 licence. It is not affiliated with any government body or ferry operator. The goal is simple: keep island life connected, support local enterprise, and make everyday tasks a little easier for everyone who calls the Southern Moreton Bay Islands home.
